Remembering the past is a gift...let us help, to make it a permanent record!
Is it common for human beings to prepare for their own passing? Is it common to talk about our own death while we are still alive? I think the answer lays in our upbringing and what culture we were born into. I actually remember my parents, in their 40's then, telling me about a 25 year long burial lease which they took out for a plot in a German Friedhof (cemetery), which meant: when they die and are buried there, that spot cannot be disturbed for 25 years by any zoning or housing requests. I vividly remember their glowing faces when they shared with me, that it was even renewable for another 25 years should they have a long life and "outlive" the first lease term! I was eight years old then...and the whole concept of "death" was simply foreign to me.
My name is Michael Phillips and a lot of things have changed since then. Not only did I get older, but I have also experienced the passing of my father, close friends, acquaintances and the passing of my mother. Especially during COVID-19 I realized, there is something to be said about life: eventually it will end for us...for all of us! For some in the near, for others in the distant future...and we will never know when that time is near.
Do we prepare for that time or do we just continue day by day? And when the day comes, are we starting to think: why was I here? Did I fulfill my purpose? How will I be remembered? What about the ones that are left behind....the ones that we’ve touched on our journey...including the ones that only visited for a short while but still were part of our existence? Wouldn’t it be nice to leave something behind that shows our journey thru life? No matter how long or short it was? Or just to have a place for the ones that are left behind to revisit and pay their respects?
When my mother passed away, I wanted to create a place, that my nephews and nieces could visit and learn more about their heritage. I wanted for my mother to be remembered for all times, so the great, great grandchildren would be able to hear and see who she was. With technology rapidly changing and with digitally interaction on a daily basis, I wanted to create a process to share information about the person that was laid to rest. After endless research, I found a coding system that was developed for Toyota in the early 90's, called a QR code. I re-vamped it to fit my specific needs and called it QR Memory Marker. That was in 2010...but suddenly my life became too busy and the idea moved to the back burner.
Now, at the end of 2010, I am re-starting my idea, kept the original name "QR Memory Markers" and have great plans: I am going to build it into a business! This new startup will become my legacy and might even be as large as GOOGLE or YAHOO with hundreds of employees. But I cannot do it alone! So, I am inviting you to follow my vision and to watch this short presentation...maybe I can count on your support.
Housed in a tiny square, called a QR code, is information (once scanned on a handheld device) that will lead the user to a page with a person's individual legacy. Depending on options, the viewer might see a slide-show, maybe a picture collage with voice over or a full fletched mini-documentary about an individual: there is no limitation when it comes to creativity!
QR Memory Marker offers you and your loved ones an opportunity to keep the essence of a person alive by honoring their journey thru life. A QR memory Marker can include pictures, photo collages, audio clips, video footage and a lot more to be seen by loved ones, children... grandchildren... great grandchildren....great great grandchildren and so on...
The QR Memory Marker website is an intricate designed site that works flawlessly with any digital device, like a smartphone and/or tablet. Once a QR code is scanned with a FREE app on iOS or the PLAY store, videos and photo collages expand to full screen by activating the lower right hand button in every video or photo presentation. Our designers also included a built-in search engine feature in the lower left corner of the home page: type in the first and/or last name of your beloved one, which also ensures the privacy for all involved, and you will be re-directed to the interactive portal which prompts you to the actual content - beautifully displayed with music, voice-over, pictures, slideshows or even a video - depending on how elaborate the content was designed. If you like to see an example, simply click here (more samples coming soon)
